Video Yearbook Premiere

On Sunday December 12th, film history will be made as Deerkill debuts its annual yearbook video in the AMC Loews Palisades Center theater from 11 AM to 1 PM.  We’ve come a long way from the old Betamax and VHS tapes that were mailed out to our camper families three decades ago.  Excitement is building among our campers as they prepare for the Premiere – the word on the street is that we have the most sought after tickets in town.  There has been no confirmation of the rumor that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will be attending.  For those camper families who haven’t RSVP’d, remember seating is limited.  Please make your reservations by Wednesday November 24th.

2011 T-Shirt Design Contest

Every year our campers and counselors arrive at camp curious to see what that year’s t-shirt design and color will be.  For the first time in our long history, we’ve decided to open up our t-shirt design to our campers’ suggestions.  Our 2011 t-shirt design will be selected from among entries received from campers by February 28, 2011.  The winner and prize will be announced shortly thereafter and the winning design will be worn by all of our counselors and campers in 2011.  The design must include:

  • The name “Deerkill Day Camp”
  • The camp year “2011” or “’11”
  • The design will be one color of dark text on a light-colored shirt.  Designs may include suggested colors or may simply be black on white.  Designs may be handwritten or computer-generated.

We’ve included our recent designs from 2009 and 2010 below as a reference.  Good luck!

4th Annual Deerkill Day Camp Fall Fest a Huge Hit!

What a wonderful day!  We hope all of the attendees had as much as fun as we did at Deerkill’s 4th Annual Family Fall Fest.  It was truly a pleasure to see so many of our campers and their friends with such huge smiles on their faces.  Yes, Mother Nature did her part and the apples were especially tasty this year, but what makes the Fall Fest so special for us is being able to revisit our summer, if only for a few hours.  For one day at least, the playgrounds were full, the moonwalk was being bounced on and everywhere we looked there were kids enjoying themselves.  Thank you to all those who attended and for making sure we didn’t end up with too many leftover pumpkins!  We also want to thank everyone who contributed a non-perishable food item for the Community Action Program of Rockland’s food bank – we donated two full large pumpkin boxes of food.  See you next year at our 5th Annual Deerkill Family Fall Fest!

Lots of pumpkins waiting for guests to arrive and take them home

Book Release Event at Deerkill

Deerkill will be the setting for the Official Book Release on Sunday, May 2nd from 12pm-3pm of Still Her Spirit Sings, a new book by Deerkill’s very own Head of Nature and local children’s author Robert W. Kurkela. Hi-Tor Animal Shelter will be on hand with animals for adoption. All ages are welcome and admission is FREE. The book will be released in time for Be Kind To Animals Week (5/2-5/8), National Pet Week (5/2-5/8) and Children’s Book Week (5/10-5/16). A percentage of the profits from the sale of the book will go to help animal causes. Robert will be reading from his book, autographing copies and answering questions.
